Movie Summary: Bertram Cates a young science teacher is arrested for violating a Tennessee law forbidding the teaching of evolution in public schools. The well-known politician Matthew Harrison Brady agrees to assist the prosecution while the Baltimore Herald provides him with a defense lawyer the venerable Henry Drummond. Drummond puts Brady on the witness stand and makes a fool of him yet the jury still finds Cates guilty. Denied a closing speech by the judge a pathetic Brady collapses and dies five days after the trial.
